About your inclusion stone!

Sterling/Stainless Pieces

SHOW IT OFF!

You stone has been hand crafted with your personal inclusion! You can touch and see every bit that goes into each stone. If you added any extra inclusions such as crushed birthstone, hair, shimmer flakes, foil flakes, ect., there is a risk of air bubbles in your stone. I cannot guarantee there will be no are bubbles in your finished piece, but I do try very hard to get them all out. Show it off! But be sure to care for it properly. Avoid hitting it on anything. It is very durable, but can get scratched or chipped if hit hard enough on something. Avoid wearing your jewelry while putting on any cosmetics, using cleaning products and any sort of work/manual labor that involves your hands to get dirty. Remember, these stone cannot compare to diamonds or gemstones. They are hand crafted with personal inclusions and some cannot be replaced. Treat them like you would a family heirloom. Daily wear will cause wear, so if you are very tough on jewelry or use your hands a lot please remove your piece before hand.

Milk Made Memories is not liable to fix or repair your jewelry if you do not care for it appropriately.

SEALANT

Each stone is sealed for 24-48 hours before shipping. This sealant is strong and durable, but can sustain scratches if you are hard on your jewelry. The sealant can also yellow/discolor if exposed to UV/Sunlight for long periods of time. Please store your jewelry in a closed container out of sunlight. It can also discolor from come cosmetics such as self tanner, tinted lotions/moisturizers, dyed lotions or perfumes, harsh cleaner(bleach, ect.)

POLISHING PAD

Each order comes with a complementary polishing pad. These pads work great for removing tarnish, discoloration and most scuffs from metal. They will even help keep tarnish away for awhile if stored with your piece!

(Cut a pad in half and store with pieces in an air tight container while not being worn. Save the other half for polishing.)

DRY SILVER IS HAPPY SILVER!

Shower. It's not a great idea to shower with your jewelry on, but once in a while isn't going to do any lasting damage. Just make sure to dry it after. Swimming? Take your silver off. Chlorine is a pretty harsh chemical, so if you accidentally forget to remove your silver jewelry before hopping in, make sure to rinse and clean it afterward. Hot Tub? Same idea as the swimming pool, but here's even more chlorine in the hot tub and the heat can accelerate the chemical reaction. Hot Springs. The sulfur in natural hot springs will wreak havoc on your silver. Unless you're going for that "dark oxidized" look, avoid at all costs. Chemicals in lotions and perfumes can also cause your jewelry to tarnish. Apply them first, let them dry, and then put your jewelry on. This alone can make a HUGE difference in your silver's luster.

PROPER STORAGE

You need appropriate storage for your stunning pieces. And, you need to be diligent about maintenance. Air exposure can wreck havoc by tarnishing your delicate silver. Don't just leave it lying on your nightstand or in an open jewelry chest. And, don't just leave it in your purse or drawer!

It's best to store silver in the box it comes in or individual, air-tight bags with anti-tarnish properties. These types of bags keep air exposure out, and keep the shininess and brilliance intact. Unclasp and unhook the jewelry to avoid potential scratching. Do NOT bunch several pieces in the same bag to save time or space. This can create tangling, scratching, tarnish, and that is exactly what we are trying to avoid here! For additional preventative efforts, silica gel packets provide anti-tarnish protection. Throw one in each bag for extra care. Finally, if you are traveling with your jewelry (because we know you want to look glamorous when in paradise), be sure to use a special case for protection! The last issue you want to deal with on vacation is scratched-up jewelry, right?

KNOW WHEN TO TAKE OFF YOUR JEWELRY

Yes, I know how much you love your gorgeous ring, pendant or bracelet. And, I know it can be hard to take those babies on and off again. But, it's critical, and here's why.

Strong chemicals, sulfur, sweat and perspiration, chlorine, and harsh sunlight can tarnish and corrode the brilliant shine you love in your silver AND stones. Don't take your chances. Preventative care is significantly easier than dealing with damaged jewelry!

It is optimal to remove jewelry during the following times:

  • Household chores, such as dishes, laundry, and when using cleaning supplies

  • When exercising, at the gym, or playing contact sports

  • When showering or bathing

  • Swimming, hot tubs, or saunas

  • Very hot places (such as when lying out at the beach or pool)

  • When getting ready (i.e: putting on lotion, makeup, hair products)

  • Preparing, cooking, or eating foods that contain sulfur (this includes eggs and mayonnaise).

  • Outside chores or tasks, such as gardening

Preventative care is ALWAYS easier than aftercare!

Gold Plated Pieces

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR YOUR PLATED PIECE

After showering, using lotion, or any other body product, wait until your product is completely dry before slipping on your gold-plated accessories. Some products can have a negative reaction with gold-plating and can cause changes in color or texture.

COSMETICS
Always apply perfume before putting on your jewelry. Perfume chemicals can react with the metal and cause a change in the appearance, so you don’t want to spray it directly on your pieces!

KEEP IT DRY
Don't sleep, shower or do the dishes in your gold-plated jewelry.

PROPER STORAGE
When traveling or not wearing your accessories, make sure to store them in a jewelry case or wrapped up in a soft cloth to prevent scratching. The Gold plating does wear off, after time, where your skin touches the band.

PEARL JEWELRY

Pearls were originally born in the water and benefit immensely from absorbing the oils that your skin naturally secretes throughout the day. So go ahead, put them on and show them you care. Gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove sweat, perfume, excess oils or dirt before putting them away. Pearls should be stored away from other objects or jewelry that may scratch their surfaces. Wrap the pearls in linen, soft cloth, or place in a soft pouch. Do NOT store pearls in an airtight package such as a plastic bag: remember, pearls need moisture.  If the environment is too dry, the pearls may crack. If placing the pearls in a safety deposit box or in a hot environment, leave a damp cloth nearby, and try to get them out of there as quickly as you can. Keep pearls away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics, as these substances will damage the pearl surface.

Make sure to put pearls on after finished spraying perfume or hairspray and putting on makeup. Be very careful with chemical substances as they will eat holes in the pearl nacre.

Remove pearls before exercising to keep them away from perspiration. Do not submerge your pearls in water - no showers, no dishes, no swimming.  The chlorine in the water will eat away at the epoxy securing the pearls to their mountings.

Final Notes

All metal does tarnish in time and if not cared for properly.
To slow down tarnish, you will want to NOT get your piece wet, always remove when putting on lotion or any cosmetics and store in an enclosed(preferably air tight) area when not wearing it.
Tarnish is inevitable and taking these steps will ensure to slow down the tarnish process.

The stones are hand-crafted and can sustain damage/discolor if you are careless with after care. They are very special keepsakes and should be loved and cared for properly.

Daily wear will cause wear on your pieces! Remember these are keepsakes and should be properly cared for!
